To follow up on my previous post about the obsession w/ fair skin in my corner of the globe, here is a recent feature from Al Jazeera TV that discusses a lot of the things I wrote about as well as giving an insight into the hazards of skin bleaching. Hit it right on the money in my humble opinion. Anyone interested in skin color/lightskin-darskin/race issues should watch this.
My favorite part was a quote that went something along the lines of: "(The people) are made to believe that the creams bring out an inherent fairness that is hidden away underneath their dark exteriors." Goes to show how much this industry feeds off of psychological self-esteem issues.
